Why you’ll love this trip
Hike to Taktsang, commonly known as the Tiger's Nest, the small monastery clinging to a rocky cliff 900 metres above the valley floor, and soak in its magnificence.
Discover the 15th-century fertility temple of Chimi Lhakhang, and visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, an ancient fortress and religious centre that sits at the confluence of two rivers.
Feel the heat of Bhutanese cuisine when you tuck into traditional meals made with red rice, local cheese and lots of tastebud-tingling chillies.
Experience Bhutanese hospitality in the Paro Valley when you enjoy a homecooked meal at a rustic farmhouse and opt to take a soak in a traditional hot stone bath.
Spend a day exploring Thimphu, from the city to the woodlands, visiting the Cheri Dorji Dhen monastery, National Memorial Chorten, Simply Bhutan and the National Textile Museum.
Is this trip right for you?
Despite Bhutan being a small country, you'll experience long travel days as most roads are single lane. It’s all part of the adventure and a great way to get to know your fellow travellers. Please read the itinerary carefully for travel time estimates.
The trek to Tiger's Nest is quite vigorous but well worth the climb. Please ensure you bring sturdy walking shoes and comfortable clothes. To make the most of this hike, it's best if you have at least a moderate level of fitness.
Bhutan is a high-altitude destination, so taking it easy for a day or two makes for a much more comfortable trip. Drinking tea and water and avoiding strenuous exercise will help you acclimatise after arriving.
Hot water is limited in some places. Speaking of all things heated, the Bhutanese love chilli and the food can be a touch spicy.
All meals are included due to the nature of travelling in Bhutan. This means there may be limited choices on some days.

Bhutan is a fantastically enchanting country! We had a great tour guide, young, hospitable and proud of his culture and country. The faith of Bhutanese people shapes their way of life and the peace and calm of the country. Our trip reminded me to take time to be present and mindful, needless to say I left Bhutan with a new found peace and calm. The sites were magical, hikes were enjoyable and the monks in prayer simply mesmerising. Thank you Intrepid for another great trip!

The Bhutan Discovered trip was INCREDIBLE. Our guide, Tashi, and driver, Wong Chuk were a fantastic team. From the moment we landed, the airport makes a huge impression. We were the last to arrive on the trip and Tashi was there to greet us and drive us to the hotel for the first night’s meeting. Tashi did a great job briefing us on the trip and every night of the trip, preparing us for the day ahead. Every single hotel was fantastic. The rooms were always clean and well furnished. Breakfasts always had coffee, eggs, bread, potatoes, fruits, and other items. Lunches and dinners always had an option I was able to eat, enjoy, and feel satisfied after. I typically dont eat very spicy food and always had something good I could eat. The group typically sat together for every meal and it was fun to socialize. It was easy to get some alone time by just sitting at a smaller table within the hotel dining areas or ordering room service at some of the hotels which offered it. The level of physical activity was ideal. There were a few hikes during the trip which had stunning views. Tashi was able to manage a variety of hiking paces, with some folks hiking faster and some slower. Tashi was also flexible and gave us options that helped everyone get the experiences they were interested in. One of the days, a group member was not feeling well and wanted to spend the morning in bed. Tashi was able to organize an afternoon pickup so they could still join the rest of us for lunch. He was incredibly attentive and always made extra effort to take care of everyone. The final day of hiking Tiger’s Nest and then doing the farmhouse meal was tremendous. The farmhouse meal was by far my favorite dinner on the trip. Also, the hot stone baths were amazing. Everyone got a private room. Bathing suits were optional since everyone had privacy. Overall, 10/10 experience. I cant recommend it enough.
