Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Tuck into a homemade traditional breakfast of Khmer noodles in a small village in Siem Reap. Once fuelled, you’ll spend the day roaming the UNESCO World Heritage Angkor complex.
Hop on a tuk-tuk and tour around Phnom Penh's favourite local restaurants and sample some of the tastiest local specialty on a evening food tour.
Cycle through Battambang meeting locals as you stop to see the production of fish paste, rice paper and rice wine, finishing with a delicious sticky rice tasting.
Learn about the sombre but important history of the Cambodian people at the S21 Genocide Museum and the Killing Fields.
Learn from the best about the use of pepper in a cooking class on a pepper farm in Kampot and enjoy a black pepper ice cream as your desert.
Is this trip right for you?
The cuisine of Cambodia includes a lot of meat and seafood. For vegetarians and vegans, we recommend reviewing the itinerary and inclusions to ensure that you will be able to participate and enjoy this trip fully. We also have many other trips to Cambodia that can accommodate various dietary requirements.
Cambodia can get very hot, and even temple-hopping can take it out of you quickly. Remember to use sun protection and drink plenty of water.
The bloody rule of the Khmer Rouge is a painful but essential part of Cambodian history to confront. If you would rather not visit the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum (S21) and the Killing Fields of Choeung Ek, just let your leader know.
You will visit several temples on this trip, and this requires a level of modesty. Be sure to bring clothes that cover the arms and pants or skirts that go past the knees. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it's hot.
Itinerary
Visit Cambodia on a foodie’s trip from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap
Cambodia has a unique and ancient food culture all of its own, and unlike Thai and Vietnamese food, it's probably difficult to find a bowl of it in your local neighbourhood. Using pepper rather than chilli to add spice, Cambodian cuisine is laden with fresh herbs, spices, rice, freshwater fish and condiments. While there are influences from French and Thai styles, Cambodian food has a distinct style and flavour that's best experienced while seated at a local beer hall or family home. While travelling from Phnom Penh through to Siem Reap, discover the sights, sounds and flavours of Kampot, Battambang and Angkor Wat.

Doing a small group tour with Intrepid is the best way to really get to know a country. I really recommend The Cambodia Real Food Adventure - it has the best of everything: local food experiences, culture, history, sightseeing, also with some free time to chill by the pool or take a massage. Muny is a great guide, looked after the group well & I learned a lot about Cambodia. Everyone should visit - the people here are very welcoming & appreciative of tourists being interested in their country.

This was an incredible experience, our fourth Intrepid tour and possibly our favourite. The thoughtful itinerary, and our generous guide, Muni, allowed us to gain an understanding of Cambodia’s history and its incredible and resilient people - this also allowed us to truly appreciate the beautiful food. We cooked and sampled fragrant curries, had the most delicious seafood . Our best foodie experiences were often in markets and street stalls like the freshest, most slurpable rice noodles you can imagine, a crab banh mi, cassava coconut cake and fried grasshoppers with chilli and kaffir lime.

This was an outstanding tour. We had a packed and fascinating itinerary, and with help of our excellent guide, Muni, felt that we really got to know Cambodia well. We ate really well, felt incredibly safe and well looked after, and there was a good measure of adventure. One of the best travel experiences that I have had, and I strongly recommend this tour.

My holiday to Kampuchea (Cambodia) with Intrepid exceeded all expectations. Our guide (Channa Uy) was one of the most caring, fun and intelligent people I've ever met - and most importantly she is passionate about her country, it's history and it's people. Our tour group quickly became a close family and I'm sure we will stay in contact going forward - hopefully we will reunite for another Intrepid trip!

Absolutely wonderful tour, don’t hesitate to book it, especially if you’re a foodie. You’ll see the real Cambodia beyond Angkor Wat and the Killing Fields, and you’ll eat like a king! Even better if you have the good luck to get Channa as your tour leader!

Cambodia Foodie Tour is a must! It's a wonderful way to experience the country and our guide, Fila, was truly outstanding. His knowledge, warmth and kindness made the tour exciting and informative. There was SO much food, you'll never go hungry! Fila showed us parts of Cambodia that not many tourists get to see and I hope to visit this beautiful country again.

The Food Tour in Cambodia was lots of fun. Our tour leader shared the love of her country with us, and I fell in love with another country. Exploring Angor Wat and the other temples was a remarkable experience. Highly recommend adding Cambodia to your destination list!

This was my sixth Intrepid trip and fourth food tour, and Cambodia absolutely did not disappoint. Mom was an exceptional tour leader—helpful, knowledgeable, and always ready to answer any question we had. The food, of course, was incredible everywhere we went. If I had to mention one downside, it’s simply that the trip wasn’t long enough! Our six days were packed, but with so much to see in Cambodia, a few extra days and an additional destination would have made it even better. This journey stands out as one of my most memorable Intrepid experiences—not only because of the amazing places and food, but because of Mom. It’s the only trip where we all finished in tears: grateful for what we experienced and genuinely sad to see it come to an end.
