Is this trip right for you?
verified
To complete this trip, it’s important that you’re both confident and competent in riding a bicycle. As the riding is mostly on sealed roads in varying states of repair, with the occasional gravel path, no technical cycling skills are required. But some downhill practice is a great idea before your trip.
verified
While the cycling distances on this trip are relatively short, the terrain of Sri Lanka is naturally hilly, so you’ll need to be reasonably fit, especially given the warm climate. This applies to the included activities which can add to the potential fatigue. The support vehicle will always be there if you need to take a break for an hour or a day.
verified
On this trip you have an expert cycling leader as well as a cycling guide/mechanic with you.
verified
Sri Lankan summers are very hot, with short, sharp monsoons in the southwest. Be sure to use adequate sun protection and drink plenty of water. The weather in this region also varies seasonally, so be prepared to get sweaty, and experience the occasional rainstorm, which may lead to a change of plans.
verified
If you have issues with heights, you might like to opt out of climbing the Lion Rock at Sigiriya (Day 6). There are lots of rough, narrow steps and tight walkways here.
verified
If you feel like doing all the riding but with less effort, you can hire an electric bike (e-bike) on this trip.
verified
Some temples on this trip require your head to be uncovered when visiting. You can opt out of temple visits if this requirement doesn't suit you.

This cycling tour was far beyond my expectations in all aspects. The itinerary is perfect. Riding days length, timing, difficulty, areas and terrain were well balanced. Dodan was the icing on the cake. Highly recommend to anyone considering this tour and ask for Dodan. He’ll look after you all the way.

I have never been on an organised trip before and went on this trip with some trepidation. The whole thing exceeded my expectations and I would happily go on a trip with Intrepid again and will recommend that my friends do the same. The attention to detail was amazing and appeared effortlessly

What an outstanding adventure!! Our bikes were first rate as was our guide and support crew. Sam is truly inspirational in his depth of knowledge and passion for his country and his role as head guide. Ablely supported by Kasam, Saman and Dilan. I have been very moved by our cycle around Sri Lanka in so many ways. Our excellent guide, Kumaru facilitated the adventurous ride through some fairly remote villages - and we felt very privileged to be cheered on by the locals working in the magnificent mountainside and low lands. Kumaru was a brilliant organiser and team leader and he was so obliging with every request. Kumaru was also great fun and really brought Sri Lanka’s history and fascinating culture to life.

Intrepids 2 week cycling tour of Sri Lanka is a must do ! The tour guide Lo was superb as was the support team including our bus driver , cycling tour lead and mechanic. The scenery is stunning , the route varied including beachside lowlands and tea plantation hilltops. The pace was perfect for a truely emmersive experience along back roads with historic highlights and lots of wildlife on safari. The locals are genuinely hospitable and the food light fresh and tasty. The beaches are great and its not too crowded with minimal traffic. The birdlife is prolific .
