So many civilisations' sites visited, it required a lot of travel but that was very comfortable. Excellent organisation and guide. Some hotels poorly maintained, as expected for the area. In the South East it seemed like we were the only non-Turkish tourists. A privilege.

What a wonderful trip! Long days of travelling meant we saw so many different landscapes from the train and then the minibus, away from the usual foreign tourist trail. We stayed in some amazing old mansion hotels, a bit rickety but always located in the most interesting part of town. We covered a huge amount of history, including one of the oldest Neolithic sites at Gobekli Tepe. Our excellent guide Erdim gave some great background information about everywhere we visited, and was able to answer all our questions - on both historical and contemporary Turkey.

Excellent trip. The archaeological sites were outstanding, especially Göbekli Tepe, which was a real highlight. Many of these places are hard to reach independently, so having them included made the experience exceptional. There were some long travel days, but absolutely worth it for what we were able to see.

This is a fabulous itinerary for those who love archeology and have an interest in ancient trade routes. Quaint towns, rarely visited by Western tourists, will enchant and the food is delicious. Shoulder season is the best time to go.

For people with a strong interest in the history of the Golden Crescent, Mesopotamia, and East Turkey generally, this trip is wonderful. The landscape is never dull, the scheduled stops at sites of historical/archaeological interest are fantastic, and we were lucky enough to have a tour leader with unsurpassable knowledge of the history of the area, from Neanderthal to the present day. The hotels, often in the ‘old towns’ were great, and the food was unsurpassable.

This trip offers a great education and exposure to the ancient civilizations of Mesopotamia and Anatolia. We benefitted from an extremely knowledgeable leader, small group and constant exchange of information between us. Informative, awe-inspiring, thought-provoking. Do it.

I booked this tour to try and capture the feeling of the historical value which has taken place in Turkey over since the beginning of the dawn of human civalisation in the Neolithic period. I was not disappointed and learned alot more than I expected, from a tour guide who made me feel part of his history through his passionate portrayal of each step of human evolution which Turkey has to offer.

This trip is not for the faint of heart. Beautiful culture and amazing people and sites. But it is an emerging area where some conveniences might not be commonplace and by the same token, not yet spoilt.

The best hotel experience was in the Ozkaya Hotel in Sivas, the young manager turned on the heat for us as it was very cold, the breakfast was excellent plus they provided omelettes and yoghurt on the request, the manager was extremely helpful as were the ladies in the kitchen providing breakfast. The worst hotel was the Euphrat Nemrut, some lights didnt work, the shower head was broken, the dinner and breakfast options were very limited, the staff weren't very friendly, there was no proper drainage and because it rained that day the puddles were literally ankle deep and ruined my shoes. The other hotels were mediocre and had various faults.
