Trip Informations
Why you’ll love this trip
Enjoy a two-day pass to Petra, giving you time to explore the complex at your leisure after a guided tour with an expert.
Experience the best buoyancy this side of outer space as you effortlessly float in the super-salty waters of the Dead Sea. And learn about the conservation effort at the Aqaba Marine Reserve from the first female ranger in Jordan!
Hop in a jeep and see the extraordinary desert scenery of Wadi Rum – a rugged lunar-like landscape of huge sandstone mountains and ancient structures hidden in the sandy dunes.
Spend two nights under the stars with a special experience at a desert camp run by Bedouin locals – full of good food and warm hospitality.
Marvel at the remarkably well-preserved ancient Roman city of Jerash on a guided tour, then discover the religious significance and Ottoman-Byzantine influences in Madaba.
Is this trip right for you?
There is quite a bit of walking involved in visiting Jordan's historic sites, especially in Petra and Wadi Rum, so a reasonable level of fitness is required. Most of the time there is no shade so remember to bring a hat, sun protection, and sturdy, comfortable walking shoes.
The diversity of the seasons here makes for incredible scenery, but the weather in this region can be unpredictable. It’s best to wear layers at all times of the year in case conditions change during the day. At night the temperature can really drop, so bring your warm clothes. Camping can be especially cold at the start and end of the season. Even in the warmer months, the temperature can be low in the mountains.
The desert camp in Wadi Rum is basic. There are tents and shared western bathroom facilities. Please be aware that while the desert may be very hot during the day, it will still be cool at night and warm clothes and a sleeping bag is highly recommended when travelling outside of the summer months. Despite this, the warm Bedouin hospitality and chance to be out under the stars certainly makes up for the camp’s simplicity.

We travelled for the first time with Intrepid and were very impressed. Having decided to visit Jordan only a few weeks before the holiday, we hoped we had chosen the right company. We were not disappointed. We were looked after from the minute we arrived by our guide who was brilliant. A great sense of humour and a real love of Jordan and its history, culture and people. We covered a lot of activities and the days were very full, so you need to enjoy a ‘lacey’ holiday, but it was perfect for us. The best bits? The desert walk, the sunrise in Wadi Rum and the visit to the Dead Sea. Not forgetting the great group we were with (14 of us).

Jordan is a must visit! It’s an oasis in the Middle East of friendly, welcoming people. As a solo female traveler, I have felt incredibly safe for my entire trip. Our tour leader and Bedouin leader were phenomenal! Don't hesitate to book this trip!!!

It was a fantastic trip with so many highlights and much more than we expected. Snorkelling in the Red Sea, floating in the Dead Sea, travelling through Wadi Rum, walking around the ruins of Petra and the size of the ruined city at Jerash. Seeing the natural springs that fed Petra and the ancient mosaics. So much to see all packed into seven days. What a great trip.

Booked Jordan trip in conjunction with an Egypt trip as a bit of an afterthought. I knew very little about the country before I arrived, but it didn't disappoint. Wadi Rum was mind blowing. Petra is breathtaking, plus there's so much more to the trip than you realise. The country itself is warm and welcoming and we always felt very safe. Our guide Yazan, was superb, his breadth and depth of knowledge was excellent, and he helped me out when I needed support during an unexpected issue, a genuinely good guy with an obvious passion for his job and his country. The country is rich with history and culture a real unexpected treat. Highly recommended.

Visiting Jordan has been an amazing, having Mohamad M. as our guide has been an enlightening and fulfilling experience. The highlight would definitely be the nights spent in Wadi Rum with the Bedouin people, being immersed in their culture and traditions, eating the local food (especially the Mansaf and Lentil soup!) while spending the night by the fire looking at the stars. We were lucky to travel with a great bunch of people from all over the world. Highly recommended trip for anyone!
