Is this trip right for you?
verified
This is an overland trip. That means you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle, visiting remote communities, setting up your own tent, occasionally roughing it in the bush with no facilities, and getting the best possible views of Africa's iconic wildlife. While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, they do have sliding windows, which let in the breeze and make it even easier to take spectacular snaps of the local wildlife. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie. This was an excellent trip with so much variety - amazing wildlife, spectacular scenery and opportunities for hiking and other outdoor activities. It started off with very hot weather and then when you hit the mountains it gets pretty cold, so make sure you pack enough coats / layers.

5 star trip with amazing sites and experiences with some free time for optional activities. You’ll see animals, visit villages, taste African food and learn about SA ´s complex history. We had a wonderful Intrepid crew who made the trip even better. Great trip but beware of the uncomfortable truck, hopefully it will be replaced soon.

This was my first ever group trip and I had an absolutely amazing time. I was hoping that Intrepid was as ethical and sustainable as they claimed and they absolutely were if not better than I was even expecting. I could not have found so most of the accommodations we stayed at and the experiences we had with the locals would have been extremely difficult for me to find and organize on my own. I felt so taken care of, safe and comfortable with all the guides. I will absolutely do another Intrepid trip in the future and I will miss the guides on this trip dearly they were incredible.

A phenomenal experience in gorgeous South Africa. The country (and Lesotho/eSwatini) has so much beauty, culture, and history (good and bad) to offer. The camping experience is generally easy/fun. A great trip with the best guides!

An exceptional team made this South African journey truly special. Colly’s leadership and knowledge, Andy’s outstanding cooking, and Clayton’s skilled, safe driving created a seamless experience. Their professionalism, warmth, and teamwork elevated the trip beyond expectations — I would gladly travel with them again in the future.

South Africa offers an incredible variety of landscapes, culture, and wildlife, and this trip was a rare chance to explore it in depth without hopping between multiple countries. However Eswatini and Lesotho turned out to be absolute gems, adding richness and surprise to the journey. Much appreciation to the brilliant Intrepid team for such a magical experience!
