Is this trip right for you?
verified
No two journeys in Africa are identical. Be prepared for travel times to be longer or shorter than advised. Weather and road conditions can change things significantly, so embrace the detours, shortcuts and unforgettable moments along the way.
verified
This is an overland trip, so you’ll be travelling with a group in a purpose-built vehicle. While the trucks don’t have air conditioning, they do have sliding windows which let in the breeze and make it even easier to take spectacular snaps of the local wildlife. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie. For more info on this style of travel, see our Africa overland page: tuuur.com/au/africa/overland.
verified
There will be many early starts, either to make use of the better safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days.
verified
The day-to-day itinerary features a selection of optional activities. Please note that this list is not exhaustive and is intended only as a guide. Prices are approximate and may change at the discretion of the local provider, and all activities are subject to availability.
verified
This trip can be partnered with other adventures into a ‘combo’, which means that some of your fellow travellers may carry on to further destinations at the end of this tour. If you’d like to spend more time in Africa, have a look at the combo itinerary: Experience Southern Africa (UBSCC).

2. This trip includes a mixture camping and other accommodation. While camping, tents, sleeping mats and sleeping bags will be provided and set up for you by our crew.

3. Border crossing delays in the region have been sporadic and difficult to predict. What takes an hour one day may take four hours the next. This may affect the order of activities in the itinerary. We understand this uncertainty can be frustrating, and we strongly recommend packing a bit of patience and flexibility.

I recently completed the Johannesburg to Victoria Falls trip with Intrepid Travel, and it was my very first solo holiday. I was nervous, scared, and excited all at once—but from the second I met our group, I felt completely at ease.
At the welcome meeting, I was worried it might feel like forced fun or awkward introductions, but I had absolutely nothing to worry about. Our guide Siya introduced himself, along with Ricardo our cook and Goodman our driver, and right away you could tell we were in great hands. These guys are a brilliant three together.
I honestly don’t know how to describe these guys other than simply incredible. They made every single day run smoothly—no problems at all (no matatas!).
Goodman was a fantastic driver. The days involved long drives, but it honestly felt like we’d only been on the truck for a few hours. His driving was calm, smooth, and completely safe, which was such a relief because I had been worried about the distances. Instead, the drives became one of my favourite parts of the trip—you get to see real local life along the way.
Ricardo, our cook, was amazing. I still don’t understand how someone can cook such delicious and varied meals while camping. The food was honestly better than what I make at home!
And finally, Siya. This man is nothing short of incredible. His knowledge of local communities, towns, wildlife—absolutely everything—was unbelievable. He’s caring, kind, hilarious, and truly passionate about what he does. He was the icing on the cake for this trip. With him around, I had no reason to feel nervous at all. For all future trips who get Siya as your guide, im jealous, you really have hit the jackpot with him. To me, he is the face of Intrepid, and I wish him nothing but the very best in life—he deserves it. Intrepid are lucky to have him working for them he's sensational. He’s become like the brother I never had and will always hold a special place in my heart.
This was my first trip with Intrepid, and it definitely won’t be my last… although I honestly don’t know how any future trip could ever beat this one.

My Kruger to Victoria Falls trip with Intrepid was unforgettable! Khensani led with expertise and warmth, Clayton kept us safe and smiling, and Lebo’s meals were amazing. We saw 4 of the Big 5 on safari, witnessed a breathtaking Botswana sunset, and soared over Victoria Falls in a helicopter—truly the adventure of a lifetime!

Intrepid Holidays was a fantastic experience. It balanced camping and lodge stays perfectly. The group was friendly, and the van was clean and comfortable. Though the drives were long, they were worthwhile. Delicious African food was cooked fresh each night. I felt safe, well looked after, and truly enjoyed the safari.

Wonderful experience, spectacular views.
Fantastic crew and fellow travellers
However , most people found the trip too fast , no time to chill out.
An extra day at NATA and Moremi Gorge would have been amazing.
