Trip Informations
Discover the heart of Mexico's Aztec, Zapotec, Maya and Spanish cultures on this 15-day adventure. Start by experiencing the mix of influences that make up Mexico City, then head out to taste pasita in Puebla, visit the markets of Oaxaca and learn about the textile traditions of Teotitlan del Valle. Immerse yourself in pre-Hispanic culture in San Cristobal de las Casas and unravel the magnificent mystery of ancient civilisations during guided tours in Chichen Itza and Palenque. Sample the incredible cuisine along the way, sharing meals with the communities of San Pedro Tlahuac and Piste, then relax beachside at Playa del Carmen. This is the ideal introduction to one of North America's most colourful and exciting destinations.

Is this trip right for you?
verified
This trip involves some long days of travel by private and local transport. While this can be tiring, it's also a fantastic way to rub shoulders with the locals and get under the skin of a place.
verified
Mexico's climate is sultry and tropical, so can get really hot and humid. Wear loose clothing and make sure you stay hydrated, especially while out on walking tours. You can also expect to walk a lot and the terrain is rarely flat. Make sure to pack a jacket for the higher altitude cities like Mexico City, Puebla and San Cristóbal de las Casas.

Karla is a superstar! An amazing and genuinely passionate your leader who handles the many issues thrown at her with ease. She was always smiling and was warmly welcomed by locals and other guides everywhere we went. She shared her passion and so much knowledge that brought our experience to life. Mexico is massive and so varied and I’m really glad to have seen it. As a vegan, I had loads of great food and met lots of friendly people

We loved our Mexico Unplugged tour which covered a large number of attractions and packed in a wide range of exciting and stimulating activities. Valentina was a highly enthusiastic tour leader. Highlights included:
- Swimming under stalactites in the turquoise waters of a remote cenote.
- Being punted along a lazy river to an organic farm where we helped harvest vegetables for our lunch.
- Climbing Mayan pyramids for spectacular archaeology and jungle views.

Can not recommend Intrepid more highly. Mexico unplugged is a great tour but be prepared fo lots of road time. Otherwise perfect for what we wanted.

Mexico Unplugged was a great way to cover a lot of ground in two weeks - it involved a lot of days in minibuses, but was worth it. Recommend optional trips to Monte Alban, Sumidero Canyon, Uxmal & cenotes - they were my top days! Add a few extra days at end to unwind on a beach!

This trip was the perfect mix of free time and group experiences. We saw so much of this wonderful country, travelling through eight of its states you get to experience the diversity of the country and its landscapes. Using Intrepid is a great way to see lots more than just tourist attractions and having a knowledgeable guide like Kei who was on hand to answer every question was amazing

Great trip to Mexico with lots of variety. Memo was an excellent leader throughout. The hotels are all in good, central locations, which does mean they can be noisy at times—ear plugs are worth bringing. We did the canyon trip as a detour on the way to San Cristóbal, which saved time the following day. Also worth remembering that most museums are closed on Mondays, so plan accordingly.

As a solo female traveller her 40s, I’d highly recommend this trip for anyone who wants a taste of the country. I’d have loved to have had more time in places but that’s understandably impossible in the time period and this tour gave me a wonderful flavour of Mexico so I’ll definitely be back. I enjoyed the free days in each place and our leader, Kei, was faultless.
