Trip Informations
Journey from the hub of Delhi into the foothills of the Himalayas and discover India’s slower side with this 12-day adventure. With a focus on spirit, mind and body, you’ll spend time unwinding on nature hikes or deep breathing through a yoga class. This region is known for its spirituality and history, and you’ll have a handy local leader by your side to teach you about the local culture along the way. Learn about the Buddhist and Sikh faiths alongside the sites of historic importance with visits to Dharamsala, Amritsar’s Golden Temple and Rishikesh. Ride on a UNESCO-listed toy train, explore the home of the Dalai Lama and watch the flag ceremony at Pakistan’s border.

Unwind in the self-proclaimed ‘Yoga Capital of the World’ – Rishikesh. Walk along the holy Ganges and explore the famous mural-lined walls of the Chaurasi Kutia ashram.
Is this trip right for you?
verified
This trip involves some long train rides, including an overnight sleeper train from Amritsar to Haridwar, which takes approximately 10 hours. Sleeper trains are a quintessential Indian travel experience. They’re a great way to travel long distances and maximise your time in each place. You’ll be travelling alongside locals, as well as Tuuur travellers, in a compartment of mixed genders. You’ll find more details about the experience in the Accommodation section of the Essential Trip Information, or you can read more about it here: https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/india-trains-guide/ . https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/india-trains-guide/ (https://www.tuuur.com/adventures/india-trains-guide/)
verified
Part of travelling with Tuuur means respecting local cultures and sensibilities. We visit several temples on this trip, which requires a certain level of modesty. Please bring clothes that cover the arms and pants or skirts that go past the knees. A light scarf is also a good idea for covering shoulders and arms when it's hot.
verified
This trip travels into the Himalayas, where temperatures can get very low. We don't run the trip in winter, but ensure that you're prepared for cold weather at any time of year (particularly from November to March). The sun can also be strong at higher altitudes, so make sure you bring a hat, sunscreen and any other sun protection.
verified
We'll be taking a private vehicle between Mandi and Dharamsala. The scenery is wonderful, but the road through the mountains is rough and bumpy. If you suffer from motion sickness, please be prepared for this journey.
verified
As Rishikesh is a sacred town, no alcohol consumption is permitted during your stay there.
verified
We've sourced our accommodation carefully and picked the best possible hotels in line with the Tuuur style of travel. Service and accommodation in India may be different from Western standards.

Fantastic trip with amazing contrasts into India - something totally different at every stop. A great way to cover and see a lot in a short amount of time without having the stress of navigating transfers and accommodation yourself. Additional insights and local knowledge from guides made it ever better!!

This trip was amazing, full of variety of locations, environments & experiences. So many very special highlights including interacting with the locals on public transport ( O/N train, toy train in Shimla & at the Golden Tempke in Amitsar). Loved the epic activites of white water rafting on the Ganges & walking around sightseeing & shopping & yoga! Fully supportive & fun leader.

The mountains in Mystic’s Intrepid tour was amazing. The trip of a lifetime! It exceeded all of my expectations. I was especially touched to be able to participate in Holi festival in Shimla, to see the Dalai Lama‘s temple in Dharmsala and possibly got to see the next, 15th
Dalai Lama. I loved how spirituality is a part of the everyday life in India. I love the beauty and chaos of it all. I would highly recommend the mountains and mystic tour if you want to reverse northern India and see a lot of important places of historical and spiritual significance. This is the tour for you.

I loved this trip, great leader, great group of fellow travelers, and a very enjoyable itinerary. I am a solo traveler and have no hesitation in recommending this type of trip for open minded people looking for an adventure. It’s busy, you’ll move around a lot so pack light, but there was still time to wander around and soak up the atmosphere in most places, especially if you get out of bed early and join the morning walks. Loved Rishikesh, very chilled.

This trip gave a positively enlightening view of India together with the varying aspects of life in the different regions. The culture, food and weather with temperatures, that varied from cold to wonderfully hot. The overriding memory will be the hospitality and warmth of the people of a beautiful country. This was all bought together by our superb guide Ruchie Gandhi whom we give the utmost credit
