Is this trip right for you?
verified
The northern lights are most visible during the colder months, when temperatures can reach -15C or below and snow is very likely. It's important to bring appropriate clothing such as a down jacket, thermals layers, gloves and suitable footwear.
verified
Many locations on this itinerary are remote, which means a few long drives. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the scenery and spend some time getting to know your fellow travellers.
verified
While there is a strong chance of seeing the northern lights in all their colourful glory (thanks to the high latitude, time of year and itinerary), nature makes no guarantees. On the rare occasion that your leader must alter the itinerary due to adverse weather, alternative activities will be offered.

This trip was a pleasure from start to finish. We had an amazing group of people from all over the world who were kind, adventurous, respectful of others and fun to be with. Our trip leader "Siggy" was extraordinary in every way. I fell in love with Intrepid Travel on this trip and will definitely book another trip soon!

My first trip through Intrepid was to Iceland. It was an amazing experience. Iceland is a beautiful island, from the glaciers to the beaches to the waterfalls!! The people of Iceland are super friendly. As a solo traveler, Intrepid is the best way to travel internationally, they handle ALL the logistics, you don't have to worry about anything except getting yourself there, they handle the rest!

Kristján our amazing Intrepid Premium Iceland in Winter Tour leader made our Icelandic adventure a trip to remember. We couldn’t have asked for a more passionate and professional guide to share his wealth of knowledge with us. We’d highly recommended this Intrepid Small Group Tour.

I have done a dozen Intrepid trips now and this one is my favourite. This is the second time I have done this trip (first time alone, this time with partner). Iceland is the most magical place on this planet and everyone needs to visit. Intrepid make it fun and they think of everything. Just do it!

A wonderful snapshot of Iceland in the winter. A big change from my visit 10 years ago in June. Loved the hiking, wildness, and getting back to nature.

This was an excellent trip in an astonishingly beautiful part of the world. The itinerary that Intrepid planned gave us a good insight into the culture and history of Iceland as well as covering the beautiful and dramatic landscapes, from volcanic fields to geothermal areas to glaciers and huge waterfalls. Food and accommodation were of a very high standard. What made the trip outstanding was our guide Kristjan who was personable, fun and very knowledgeable. His great ability to impart information through stories was very enjoyable and made the information that he conveyed memorable. Highly recommend.

Iceland felt like a dream—thundering waterfalls, erupting geysers, and volcanic fields that looked otherworldly. The Northern Lights painted the sky in surreal colors, while Reykjavík’s cozy vibe added charm. Hearing folklore of the hidden people made mossy hills feel alive, blending nature and myth into an unforgettable adventure.
